What is Sporting Tourism? Sporting Tourism is when you travel to a sporting event to watch or travelling to participate in sporting activities. Travelling to participate in sporting activities, is known as active sports tourism. Passive sports tourism is when someone is traveling to watch sporting events. Sporting tourism generates revenue, promotes cultural exchange, and creates jobs, these help to boost the economy.

There are different types of sporting tourism including event-based tourism, active sports tourism, spectator sports tourism, and recreational sports tourism. Event-based tourism refers to travelling to attend or participate in a specific sporting event, this includes the Olympics, Super Bowl, and the World Cup. Active sports tourism refers to travelers who are travelling to participate in physical sporting activities, this includes golfing, surfing, skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and taking part in marathons. Spectator sports tourism refers to traveler who travel to watch sporting events as a spectator, this includes attending professional rugby, football, cricket, baseball, basketball, and motorsports events. Recreational sports tourism refers to travelling to participate in recreational sports for relaxation and leisure, this includes fishing trips, sailing cruises, and golfing experiences.
